General Dentistry Services In New Jersey

Trustworthy, compassionate care.
Periodontal (Gum) Treatment

We provide deep teeth cleanings as an effective treatment for periodontal disease. Affecting more than half of Americans, periodontal (gum) disease is a result of bacteria and plaque build-up that finds their way to the tooth’s root.

Signs and symptoms may include the following:

  • Redness or swelling of the gums
  • Bleeding gums when brushing
  • Bad breath or halitosis
  • Receding gums
  • Pain when chewing
  • Shifting of teeth

It’s important to see Dr. Nosti regularly to ensure the disease doesn’t progress, which can cause further damage to your gums and teeth. Gum disease destroys the bone that supports your teeth and may lead to tooth decay or even tooth loss.

A deep cleaning is similar to a regular cleaning. In addition to cleaning the teeth, Dr. Nosti will remove plaque and tartar between the gumline and the root area. You may experience minimal discomfort and if you prefer, a local anesthetic can be given to numb the area.

Metal-Free Tooth Fillings

Metal-free fillings have become the dental standard for progressive dental offices. They not only provide aesthetic advantages, but these fillings promote better oral and whole-body health.

Metal fillings can leak toxins into the mouth, which can then enter the body. We exclusively use safe, customizable, and tooth-colored materials for fillings. Some of the outstanding advantages that come with tooth-colored fillings are:

  • They’re not sensitive to heat and cold – so they are not in danger of cracking vulnerable surrounding tooth enamel
  • Allergy-free, unlike metal fillings
  • They’re bonded in place, creating a stronger surface that guards against fractures
  • They look beautiful — they’re custom-created to match your natural tooth color and contours
Eating Disorder Treatment

We understand the emotional and physical toll an eating disorder can cause. For some, the side effects of their disorder may cause permanent damage to the teeth or gums.

Someone may experience bleeding gums or dry mouth due to a lack of proper nutrition. Frequent vomiting can cause soft palate damage and tooth erosion from strong stomach acids coming in contact with tooth enamel. Teeth become fragile and can easily break or crack.

Planned treatment of meticulous oral hygiene care and regular examinations by Dr. Nosti will help. We respect your right to patient confidentiality, and you can feel safe in our care.

Questions About General Dentistry

Get the answers below!
  • Why Do My Gums Bleed When I Brush My Teeth?

Bleeding gums are a serious warning sign that your teeth need professional care. Gums bleed because of a build-up of plaque on the surface of the teeth caused by inadequate brushing and flossing. This condition is known as gum disease and can be treated, and the damaging effects reversed. However, untreated gum disease can lead to periodontal disease, which has permanent effects.

With periodontal disease, the gums become red and swollen with infection. The gums start to recede or pull away from the tooth leaving the tooth roots vulnerable and often leading to loss of the bone supporting the tooth and eventually, loss of the tooth.

A consistent program of brushing and flossing and regular dental visits are the best way to prevent the worst from happening – losing your teeth!

  • How Much Toothpaste Do I Need to Use?

For an adult, it only takes a dab of fluoridated toothpaste about the size of a pea to adequately clean your teeth.

Many have been misled by ads and commercials, thinking they must use a long ribbon of toothpaste that covers the length of their toothbrush. But toothpaste has abrasives in it, especially if they are polishing or whitening kinds of toothpaste. Using too much of this abrasive paste can damage tooth enamel and cause tooth sensitivity.

  • How Safe Are Dental X-Rays?

Improved technology in dental x-rays means you are exposed to 80% less radiation than in the past. Modern digital x-rays are done quickly and are extremely accurate and have the same radiation exposure as a 1 to 2-hour plane ride.

We follow the guidelines set out by the ADA (American Dental Association) and only take x-rays when needed for treatment or diagnosis.

  • What Causes Tooth Sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity happens when the dentin – the yellowish-colored layer beneath your enamel – or tooth roots have become exposed.

There are many reasons your teeth might become sensitive, and you experience pain when eating or drinking something that is hot or cold. Here are a few:

    • Teeth have become injured because of clenching or grinding
    • Your teeth are chipped or have fractures in the enamel
    • Receding gums caused by gum disease have exposed the roots of a tooth
