What Is A Dental Bridge?

dental bridge is a customized restoration that’s designed to bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth while blending in with the rest of your smile. These restorations are made up of natural-looking prosthetic teeth, called pontics, that replace the missing teeth. Unlike dentures, these pontics are permanently affixed and rely on your adjacent teeth for support.

In addition to traditional bridges, our office offers implant-supported bridges. These look and function just like our traditional bridges, but they’re secured with dental implants instead of relying on your surrounding teeth. The result is that patients can enjoy a longer-lasting smile that’s more durable compared to other restorations.

The Dental Bridge Treatment Process

The treatment process for a dental bridge can be completed in just two appointments at our Mays Landing dental office.

During your first visit, Dr. Nosti will prepare your anchoring teeth by removing a portion of the enamel and protecting them with porcelain crowns for increased strength. We’ll then send highly accurate digital molds of your teeth to our dental laboratory, where your customized restoration will be created. In the meantime, you’ll be provided with a temporary bridge to protect the area.

Once your customized bridge is ready, you’ll return to our Mays Landing office. Dr. Nosti will ensure that your permanent restoration looks and fits perfectly before affixing it to your teeth with a special dental resin. Once the bridge is secured, you’ll leave our office ready to show off your stunning new smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are Dental Bridges Permanent?

Dental bridge restorations can last up to 15 years or more with proper maintenance. While the treatment is very durable, they do wear out with everyday use and will eventually need to be replaced. By brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily, as well as attending regular dental visits to our Mays Landing office, your oral health will be kept in pristine condition.

  • Is a Bridge Better than an Implant?

The best restorative solution will depend on your individual treatment needs. It’s important to schedule a consultation with Dr. Nosti for him to evaluate your oral health before discussing which procedure is right for you. Unlike dental implants, bridges don’t require surgery and have a shorter recovery period after treatment.

  • Will the Bridge Affect Any Normal Functions?

Dental bridges won’t negatively affect the normal functions of your teeth. In fact, a bridge will enhance several aspects of your oral health and functionality, such as eating comfortably, speaking with confidence, and improving the appearance of your smile. If you feel something may be wrong with your bridge, it’s important to schedule an appointment with our office to receive immediate care.
